Invest in a Sustainable Future
Altheros Capital identifies emerging technologies that address the challenges of global climate change.
The Earth’s natural resources are being depleted at levels that are unsustainable for our world’s growing population. Current levels of deforestation, water usage, and coal and oil extraction have put our global population at risk of running out of resources vital to human life, faster than we can replenish them.
According to the United Nations Environment Programme, some of the most pressing challenges to sustainability are:
Deforestation: 420 million hectares of forest have been lost since 1990 through conversion to other land uses, largely driven by the need to produce more food.
Water Security: countries will not be able to sufficiently meet the water needs of ⅔ of the world’s population by 2025.
Climate Change: Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases have reached record levels, prompting The UN to declare a climate emergency. Climate change has caused weather patterns to change, sea levels to rise and weather events to become more extreme.
In response to these alarming developments, The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals on Climate call for companies and governments to invest in solutions that will:
Reduce the rate of deforestation and identify more sustainable solutions for food production
Help enhance water preservation and security
Accelerate the decarbonization of all aspects of the global economy
